A special operation and mobile court were conducted to prevent illegal fishing in the Mahananda River in Bholahat Upazila of Chapainawabganj and 45 Chinese double nets were seized.

The operation was conducted in the Mahananda River in the Gilabari area of ​​the upazila at around 12:30 pm on Monday (August 3, 2026). During the operation, 45 Chinese double nets were lifted from the river. Later, the seized nets were burned in public and destroyed.

According to relevant sources, the estimated value of the destroyed nets is about 1 lakh 80 thousand taka. Bholahat Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Sanaul Morshed, Senior Upazila Fisheries Officer Sanjay Kumar Sarkar, members of Bholahat Police Station and members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were present during the operation.

Fisheries Department officials said that such campaigns will continue in the future to conserve the river's natural fishery resources and stop the use of illegal nets.
