Goalanda (Rajbari) Correspondent:
Police have arrested the driver, assistant and supervisor in the incident of a bus sinking after losing control while boarding a ferry at Daulatdia pier number 7 in Goalanda, Rajbari.
They were arrested and sent to court on Saturday (June 6) afternoon. Earlier, on Friday night, Daulatdia Naval Police Station SI Abuzar Gifari filed a case with Goalandaghat Police Station as the plaintiff.
The arrested persons are bus driver Jhantu Ali (48), supervisor Ajmal Hossain (38) and assistant (helper) Shakib Hossain (22).
On Friday night, Daulatdia Naval Police Station SI Abuzar Gifari filed a case with Goalandaghat Police Station as the plaintiff, accusing the three arrested and unknown persons of the SB Super Deluxe Paribahan bus operating authority.
The statement mentioned that at around 9:25 am on Friday, the Dhaka-bound SB Super Deluxe Paribahan bus, which left Gangni in Meherpur, reached Ghat No. 7. At that time, the responsible officials of the Naval Police and BIWTC ordered the driver to disembark the passengers before boarding the ferry. As per the instructions, about 37 to 40 passengers got off the bus. After a while, the bus driver, Jhantu Ali, started the bus and started driving recklessly and negligently.
The statement further said that instead of taking the bus to the ferry 'Bir Shrestha Jahangir', the driver quickly crossed the pontoon and boarded another ferry named 'Karbi Oxfam'. Later, when he pushed the ramp at the end of the ferry with force, the chain and seat belt of the ramp tore and the bus fell into the river.
The incident reportedly caused damage worth around three lakh taka to the ferry's infrastructure and passengers' belongings. Goalanda Ghat Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Md. Rashidul Islam said, "The accused in the case, the bus driver, supervisor and helper, were arrested and sent to court on Saturday afternoon. Our efforts are continuing to arrest the bus director involved in the incident."
