Chapainawabganj Correspondent:
Due to the possibility of smuggling of arms, ammunition and explosives by criminals/terrorists across the border to destabilize the law and order situation in the country on the occasion of the upcoming 13th National Parliament elections, the BGB Director General has issued strict instructions to stop smuggling.
In light of the Director General's instructions, strict surveillance and intelligence activities have been increased in the area under the responsibility of the Mahananda Battalion (51 BGB). In this context, the commander came to know through his own intelligence information that some consignments of arms would enter Bangladesh through the border area of the Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB). To that end, for the past 02 months, strict surveillance, including own intelligence and patrol activities, has been increased in the 75 km border area under the responsibility of this battalion.
In view of this, on the direction of Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB), on 8 January 2026 at approximately 9:40 pm, a smart patrol team of the subordinate Azmatpur BOP conducted a special operation in a mango orchard in Unishbigha village of Shahabajpur Union under Shibganj police station of Chapainawabganj district, 400 yards inside Bangladesh from border pillar 182/3-S.
In the said operation, the patrol team recovered 2 foreign one-shooter guns and 9 rounds of bullets without an owner. Initially, it is believed that the recovered weapons are planned to be used in internal law and order and terrorist activities in the country. The process of handing over the recovered weapons and bullets to Shibganj police station is underway by filing a general diary. Incidentally, this battalion has recovered 6 foreign weapons/one-shooter guns, 12 rounds of bullets and 2 magazines in the last 6 months.
It is worth mentioning that Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) has been able to seize 33 domestic/foreign pistols, 398 rounds of bullets and 41 magazines along with 15 accused in the last 3 years by conducting operations in the border areas.
In this regard, Mahananda Battalion (59 BGB) Commander Lt. Col. Golam Kibria, BGBM, BGOM confirmed the truth of the matter. He said that special patrols are being conducted in the border areas along with increasing operational activities to implement the zero tolerance policy against arms, ammunition, drugs and smuggling, which will continue in the future.
