Brahmanpara (Comilla) Correspondent:
Police have recovered a large quantity of narcotics from the house of a public representative of Shashidal Union in Brahmanpara Upazila of Comilla. On Monday (October 20) afternoon, 100 kg of marijuana was recovered from the house of Union Parishad Member (UP Member) Nurul Islam in Uttar Shashidal village of the upazila. At that time, a person named Kausar (30), an associate of Nurul Islam, was arrested.
The anti-drug operation was conducted by a joint force led by Brahmanpara Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Sajedul Islam and SI Mehedi Hasan. According to the police, based on a secret tip-off, 40 kg of marijuana was first recovered from a bamboo grove near the house of Nurul Islam member in Uttar Shashidal area. At that time, a person named Kausar was arrested red-handed from the scene.
Later, according to the confession of the arrested Kausar, the police searched the roof of Nurul Islam Member’s house and recovered another 60 kg of marijuana kept for drying. The police confirmed that the total weight of the recovered marijuana was about 100 kg.
In this regard, Brahmanpara Police Station OC Mohammad Sajedul Islam told reporters, “Based on secret information, a total of 100 kg of marijuana was recovered from Nurul Islam Member’s house during a raid. An accomplice named Kausar was arrested from the scene. A case under the Narcotics Control Act is under process in this incident. Our operation to arrest the fugitive UP member Nurul Islam is ongoing.”
Locals said that Nurul Islam had been using the identity of a public representative to influence the area for a long time. However, the news of his involvement in drug trafficking like marijuana came as a surprise to the locals. It is known that Nurul Islam jumped from the roof after sensing the presence of the police during the raid.
On the other hand, the arrested Kausar is the son of the late Abdul Hakim of Shashi Dal and is known in the area as a close associate of Nurul Islam. Police said that during initial interrogation, Kausar admitted that he regularly participated in the collection and drying of marijuana on the orders of Nurul Islam.
Local administration and law enforcement officials say that if someone in a responsible position like a public representative is involved in the drug trade, it is a very dangerous example for society. Therefore, the real gang will be identified and brought to justice through a full investigation of this incident.
The common people of the area have praised the police’s initiative in this anti-drug campaign. They said, “If such campaigns are conducted regularly to eradicate drugs from the area, the society will be largely drug-free.”
